Celebrating 15 Years of Sisterhood & Service
The Upsilon Omega Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was chartered on May 9, 1998 and is headquartered in Irmo, South Carolina. The foresight of Upsilon Omega Omega began with the vision of her three insightful charter members, Malicia Sherman, Audria Pendergrass and Emily McCants, and evolved into an interest group of sixteen (16) young women known as the Emeralds of Excellence. The Emeralds of Excellence persevered many months and worked hard in the community until the reality of Upsilon Omega Omega was established.
We have continued to plan and implement programs responsive to the needs of the local community. We have supported programs dealing with AIDS and Breast Cancer research; youth programs to assist with academic achievement, self-awareness, and self-esteem; community housing projects and clothing donations; and one on one social interactions with senior citizens in the community. We have a program that supports women in the workforce striving to achieve their goals; assist with resume writing, interview skills, and proper work etiquette. We partner with other organizations striving to meet the needs of the community; assist teenage girls with preparation for their junior and senior prom. Our chapter is also a firm supporter of black dollar programs, targeting the black business community for trade and commerce. With the help and continued support of our communities, it is our goal to provide programs and avenues to uplift and strengthen the community.
